Communist Freed in India
Secretary-General S.A. Dange and ten other officials of the Communist Party of India were released from prison after having been incarcerated for more than two years, while 38 other Communists were given a reprieve from a detention order. During the British Raj, (rāj, meaning "rule" in Hindi) Dange was arrested by the British authorities for communist and trade union activities and was jailed for an overall period of 13 years.
