Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer, “the Spook of
Sint-Truiden”
German World War II ace and four
time winner of the Knight's Cross, who had 121 victories at night; was the
highest scoring night fighter ace in the history of aerial
warfare. Died two days after a truck
collided with his car and spilled its cargo on top of him, "breaking
almost every bone in his body. He was 28
years old.
