The Estádio do Maracanã, with seating for almost 200,000 spectators, opened in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a match between the Rio de Janeiro All-Stars beat São Paulo All-Stars. The Estádio do Maracanã also known as Maracanã, officially Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, is a football stadium.l. The stadium is part of a complex that includes an arena known by the name of Maracanãzinho, which means "the Little Maracanã" in Portuguese. The total attendance at the final game of the 1950 FIFA World Cup was 199,854, making it the world's largest stadium by capacity (when it was inaugurated)
