First Human Organ Transplant
The first human organ transplant in history was performed
at the Little Company of Mary Hospital, in the Chicago suburb of Evergreen Park, Illinois. The surgery was
performed by a team led by Dr. Richard M. Lawler. Ruth Tucker, of Jasper,
Indiana, received a kidney from an unidentified woman who had died an hour
earlier from cirrhosis of the liver. And would survive for five more years
after the operation
