Rush Limbaugh
Rush
Hudson Limbaugh III, born January 12, 1951) is an American entertainer, radio
talk show host, writer, and conservative political commentator. His talk show began in 1984 at Sacramento,
California, featuring his ongoing format of political commentary and listener
calls. In 1988, Limbaugh began broadcasting his show nationally. According to
December 2015 estimates by Talkers Magazine, Rush Limbaugh has a cumulative
weekly audience 13.25 million listeners, making it the most listened-to
talk-radio program in the USA.
The
listeners to the show are referred to as "Ditto-heads". Early in the
show's run, listeners began to use the variations on the expression
"ditto" to speed up the beginnings of calls, which tend to open with
the listener expressing his or her gratitude to the host and an appreciation of
the show. Mr. Limbaugh claims the term originated with a caller who said
"ditto what the previous caller said".
