President gets Life in Prison
Árpád Szakasits, the head of state of the Hungarian
People's Republic as Chairman of the Presidential Council, and the nation's
former President, was arrested on charges of corruption. He would be sentenced
to life in prison, but then would be released in 1956 during the Hungarian
Revolution, and rehabilitated within the Hungarian Workers' Party after the
revolution was suppressed.
